The long-awaited merger of Absolute Poker and UltimateBet finally arrived today, with the announcement that players from both sites have been merged to form the CEREUS network. With both sites plagued by controversy which resulted in drastically reduced player numbers, the only surprisinging thing about CEREUS is how long it took the geniuses who owned both poker rooms to create it.
Whether or not you believe the reputed $15 million payout to players affected by the SuperUser controversy was adequate, the word is that a lot of that money is currently being splashed around on CEREUS.
Apart from the obvious boost to player numbers and game selection, there is nothing on the CEREUS promotional pages which suggest any special launch promotions are underway or even any serious improvements the new network will bring to existing or prospective players. Mention is made of a larger bad beat jackpot, but that's nothing to sing and dance about. The launch news release states "the combination of a new technology platform and UltimateBet's 24/7 Security Center brings players a watertight gaming experience". Let's hope that's true.
But it almost seems that, after months of hype, the CEREUS network is almost being launched quietly, as if they fear the worst.
But that might just be the cynic in me talking. Merging the two sites was a no-brainer, and it's only positive for players on either site that they've finally merged.
